Position
Golf & Life Skills Coach, First Tee — Massachusetts
- Multiple positions available for Lead Coach and Assistant Coach roles
- Positions available at program locations across the state including Boston, Boylston, Lynnfield, Natick, Norton, and Springfield
- Part-time, seasonal roles typically range from 4-12 hours per week
- Could reach 30 hours per week if desired and willing to coach at multiple locations.
First Tee Overview
By seamlessly integrating the game of golf with a life skills curriculum, First Tee — Massachusetts creates active learning experiences that build inner strength, self-confidence and resilience that kids can carry to everything they do.
Created in 1997 by the PGA TOUR, First Tee has been using golf to provide unique growth opportunities and learning experiences to all kids, no matter their background. First Tee chapters implement game changing programs with trained coaches in multiple environments such as golf courses, schools and after-school programs.
Job Summary and Details
- Lead Coach – responsible for implementing the First Tee Program, a curriculum of life skills and golf skills designed to help young people become more confident, capable and resilient versions of themselves on and off the golf course.
- Assistant Coach – supports the Lead Coach in delivering the program. Assistant Coaches should be willing and able to step up and lead classes if the Lead Coach becomes unavailable.

- Completes all background check and annual child safety training requirements
- Demonstrates outstanding character consistent with that of a mentor
- Lives out First Tee values and put First Tee life skills into practice in your own life
- Maintains a professional and welcoming attitude
- Adheres to the standards of the First Tee Code of Conduct
- Charismatic, personable, and motivational in working with youth
- Always ensures the physical, emotional and social safety of participants
- Serves as a positive example and mentor for other coaches/volunteers
Program Duties and Responsibilities
- Delivers First Tee program content with fidelity as trained by chapter and HQ staff
- Remain active in the First Tee Coach Program
- Enthusiastically embraces First Tee’s coaching and youth development philosophy
- Begins and ends scheduled lessons on time
- Arrives for classes early and prepared
- Treats partner facilities with respect by properly cleaning up and caring for equipment and grounds
- Monitors the quality of equipment and informs Program Director of equipment needs
- Keeps and reports accurate participant attendance records
- When necessary, serves as a chapter contact for volunteers, students, and parents
Experience & Qualifications
- Commitment to the mission of First Tee — Massachusetts, which includes:
- Passion for youth development
- Desires to serve all kids, with emphasis on underserved and underrepresented groups (with respect to ethnicity, gender and socio-economic status)
- Demonstrates a willingness to embrace the game of golf and the opportunities it provides all young people.
- Prior experience with sports and coaching are preferred
- Golf instruction credentials (LPGA and PGA) are not required but can be a plus
- Previous experience working with youth in a classroom, camp or similar environment is a plus
- Must be 18 years or older
